Description

of ovoid form, each painted with scattered sprays of pink roses between dark blue-ground gilt-edged borders, the domed pierced covers with hunting hound and prey finial, indistinct incised numerals

33 cm, 13 in. high

The rose decoration combined with deep blue-ground borders is indicative of the influence of the Sèvres manufactory on production at Doccia in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. A teapot and sugar bowl with the same decoration is illustrated G. Morazzoni and S. Levy, Le Porcellane Italiane, Milan, 1960, vol. II, col. pl. XIV.
