each painted ‘a vedute’ with a view of ruins within a gilt ovolo border, titled in black script on the reverse ‘Tombeaux Antiques, entre Casert et Capone’ and ‘Portion de l’Amphithèâtre de Capone’, the blue-ground border reserved with three landscape cartouches between gilt scrolls and shell ornament

This pair of plates probably belonged to a service painted with views of the Kingdom of Naples, many of the scenes for which were derived from Voyage pittoresque ou déscription des Royaumes de Naples et de Sicile, published in Paris, in four volumes, between 1781 and 1786. A plate, together with a bottle cooler, from the service are illustrated by A. d'Agliano et al., Lucca e le porcellane della Manifattura Ginori, Commissioni patrizie e ordinativi di corte, exhibition catalogue, Lucca, 2001, p. 169, no. 112.
