Offered anonymously, London, Christie's, 9 July 2003, lot 104 (as Sebastiano Ricci), where withdrawn;
Acquired subsequently by the present owner.
Galatea's posture compares closely to that of Flora in a painting by Sebastiano Ricci (1659–1734) in a private collection, Ravenna.1 The triton and sea nymphs that surround her likewise find their counterparts in Ricci's Triumph of the Marine Venus, datable around 1713, in the Getty Museum, Los Angeles.2
