Two jewelled gold or silver-gilt mounted enamel Art Déco vanity cases, Paris, circa 1925

both rectangular, the grounds decorated in opaque black enamel, the lid of the first applied with a carved chalcedony basket containing flowers formed of diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires, the pushpiece formed of baguette-cut diamonds, the interior fitted with a mirror, two hinged powder compartments and a lipstick holder, apparently unmarked apart from French eagle's head second standard mark for 14 ct gold, 7.6cm., 3 in. wide;

the second by Auguste Peyroula, Paris, with a rose-cut diamond-framed sliding clasp decorated with a carved emerald and ruby flower, the silver-gilt interior fitted with a lipstick holder flanked by two powder compartments, maker's mark, oval French vermeil mark, French boar's head standard mark, stamped with serial no. 2530, 8cm., 3 1/8 in. wide
