shaped-oval form, the bases formed as crashing waves and shells with a coiled snake bracket, the bodies chased with shells and scrolls and engraved with a coat-of-arms, the handles formed as monstrous snakes, two with maker's mark only,

Inventory of Sneyde Plate at Keele Hall, described as "4 chased sauceboats, snake handles", 15 June 1849
The arms are those of Sneyd of Keele Hall, near Newcastle-under-Lyme impaling Bagot for Walter Sneyd M.P. (1752-1829), sometime High Sheriff of Staffordshire, who married in 1786 Louisa (d. 1834), daughter of William, 1st Lord Bagot.
These sauceboats are the same model as those marked for John Swift, London, 1764, in The Royal Collection, see A. E. Jones, The Gold and Silver of Windsor Castle, 1911, plate LXXXII. Paul Storr also made a number of sauceboats in this pattern.
