Rare first edition of Barnabé Brisson's compilation of extracts from classical sources on the Persian Empire and its religion and customs. Some copies are recorded with the date 1590 instead of 1591 on the title-page.


8vo (163 x 93 mm). Roman and Greek type, 33 lines plus headline. collation: â8 A-Z8 Aa-Gg8 Hh4: 252 leaves. Woodcut Aldine device on title-page, woodcut initials and headpieces. (Cut close at head, small stain on Q7.)


binding: Modern half leather over marbled boards retaining old pastedowns (172 x 109 mm).
