An eboshi-nari kabuto [court cap shaped helmet] 

Momoyama - Edo period, late 16th - early 17th century 


the tall gold lacquered three-plate iron helmet of eboshi-nari [court cap shaped form], decorated overall in tataki-nuri, gold tataki-nuri mabisashi [peak], small black lacquer fukigaeshi [turnbacks] applied with copper-gilt sasa rindo mon [autumn bellflower and young bamboo crests], gold and black lacquer fukurin [ornamental border], three-tiered black lacquer itamono Hineno-jikoro [close-fitted solid plate neck guard] with kebiki-odoshi [close-spaced lacing] in dark blue braid, gilt metal maedate [forecrest] in the form of kanji [Chinese characters], this lot is sold with a metal helmet stand as illustrated


The bowl to peak: 25 cm., 9¾ in.

The shikoro to peak: 34.5 cm., 13½ in. 

Please note the shikoro and fittings are of later date.
The autumn bellflower and young bamboo crest (sasa rindo kamon) is associated with the Ishikama family, daimyo of Kameyama in Ise Province.
