A Haruta school akoda-nari kabuto [helmet] and an Iwai school Etchu-bo mempo [face mask]

Momoyama period, late 16th century


the gold and black lacquered eight plate iron bowl of akoda-nari form with raised ridges, terminating in a four-stage tehen kanamono of typical chrysanthemum form, gold and black lacquered mabisashi [peak] and fukigaeshi [turnbacks], four-tiered dark red lacquered itamono-jikoro [neck guard with solid plates] with sugake odoshi [spaced-lacing] in orange braid, the copper-gilt maedate [forecrest] in the form of a stylised crescent moon, the fine etchu-bo mempo forged in one piece with high cheekbones, flared nostrils and open mouth, chased and engraved overall with yasurime [file markings], silver inlaid moustache, gold lacquer teeth, red lacquer interior, four-tier yodaregake [throat protector] in matching braid, this lot is sold with a wood helmet stand as illustrated
