oval, the lid applied with a an oval enamel plaque of a couple with a tambourine and a successful fisherman near a fortress by a port, in a chased gold frame, on an engine-turned reeded gold ground decorated in brown and translucent enamel with trees simulating agate arborisé, chased gold laurel borders and opaque white enamel rims, the sides and base similarly decorated with further chased rosettes and dividers, maker’s mark, charge mark of Jean Baptiste Fouache, no discharge mark, Paris date letter N for 1776, further numbered to interior of base: 817, French post-1918 control mark,
