rectangular with cut corners, the lid and base set with enamel plaques painted en sépia with Pygmalion and an allegory of Painting, with later bezels, surrounded by translucent dark blue enamel on an engine-turned ground of arched bands, the sides richly chased with rose garlands, trophies of love and urns on a sablé ground, the dividers further formed of fluted Ionic columns hung with swags, maker’s mark, charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre 1768-1774, Paris date letter K for 1773/1774, later Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold,
