the central compartment of the band decorated with a micromosaic of gryphons and scrolls flanking a winged putto’s head, against a bright blue background, surmounted with a stylised crown centred with a gold filigree anthemion below a micromosaic roundel amidst grapes and vine leaves, crowned by graduated gold beads and pierced bold scrollwork, the sides of the gold band applied with lettering reading: Vita Dulcis, in a fitted velvet-lined shagreen presentation case, illegible maker’s mark, 18ct gold standard mark for 1815-1870;
