Sotheby’s presents this Scottie Pippen game-worn jacket, worn at the start of Team USA’s gold-medal defense against Argentina on July 20, 1996. Pippen turned in a typically balanced performance, finishing with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. He also led the game with 3 steals, setting the tone for Team USA’s defensive effort as the United States earned a 96–68 victory. The lot is accompanied by a pair of game-worn warmup pants.

The 1996 U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball Team combined returning Olympic veterans with established NBA stars. Pippen and Charles Barkley, both members of the 1992 Dream Team, provided experience and leadership as the program entered a new Olympic cycle. Pippen’s role was defined by his ability to impact the game in multiple ways, reinforcing the standard he had set throughout his career.

Throughout the Atlanta Games, Pippen’s versatility proved central to Team USA’s success. He defended multiple positions, facilitated offense, and helped organize the team without relying solely on scoring.

The United States went on to win the gold medal, extending its unbeaten Olympic run with NBA players. With the victory, Pippen became the first player to win an Olympic gold medal and an NBA championship in the same year on two separate occasions, first in 1992 and again in 1996 following the Chicago Bulls’ NBA title earlier that summer.

This jacket comes directly from the Collection of Scottie Pippen.
