FOLDING CHAIR

This lot features a unique piece from Scottie Pippen’s personal collection: a chair from the 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games. Likely from the court, the chair provides a direct link to one of the most significant international basketball tournaments in history.

This chair offers a glimpse into the environment of Olympic competition and the 1996 Games, where Pippen helped lead Team USA to gold. Its survival and direct provenance make it one of the more distinctive items from Pippen’s collection, capturing the atmosphere of the Olympics in a way few objects can.

The 1996 U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball Team brought together veteran leaders like Scottie Pippen and Charles Barkley with rising NBA stars. Pippen, at the peak of his all-around ability, contributed defense, playmaking, and leadership, while Barkley provided experience and a bridge to the original Dream Team of 1992.

Throughout the Games, Pippen’s versatility and basketball intelligence were key to Team USA’s success. Able to guard multiple positions, facilitate offense, and elevate his teammates without relying solely on scoring, he embodied the modern two-way player. His presence helped balance a roster full of talent and supported the team’s disciplined, team-first style.

The U.S. team went undefeated at the Atlanta Games, capturing the gold medal and extending the Olympic winning streak for NBA players. With this victory, Pippen became the first player in basketball history to win an Olympic gold medal and an NBA Finals championship in the same year twice—first with the 1992 Dream Team, and again following the Bulls’ 1996 title.

This chair comes directly from the Collection of Scottie Pippen.
