E mbracing 5000 years of Asian art history, this sale will encompass a diverse range of paintings, sculptures and works of art from China and Japan, South-East Asia, India and the Himalayas. A collects ion of Japanese woodblock prints ukiyo-e, blue and white porcelains from two private European collects ions, some Chinese paintings and even a collects ion of copper-alloy ornaments, tokchas, from Tibet lead this fascinating journey through Asia.


Chinese Paintings and Works of Art

This sale caters to connoisseurs looking for hidden gems in all areas of Chinese arts, amongst them some paintings including an impressive trompe l’oeil featuring views of a Palace’s gardens, famille-rose porcelains and scholarly art.

Blue and White Porcelains from the Transitional and Kangxi Period

Several European collects ions of blue and white porcelains provi
de an interesting focus for the sale, amongst them some fine examples from an old French family collects ion acquired from the historical Eymery & Cie galery, rue St Honoré in Paris, fine ensemble of 18th century cups and saucers as well as ‘Kraak’ porcelains decorated in a cobalt blue of great intensity. Added to this several groups of transitional period blue and white porcelains from the Captain Michael Hatcher’s sale and the Vung Tau cargo.

South East Asian Bronzes from The collects ion of Constant Vecht

The sale will also feature sculptures and works of art from Southeast Asia, including an interesting group of bronzes from Thailand, Cambodia and Java from the personal collects ion of Constant Vecht, who was the descendant and the last director of the kunstalen A. Vecht gallery founded by Aäron Vecht in Amsterdam in 1910 (Lots 168-172).

Buddhist art from China and the Himalayas

Buddhist art from China and the Himalayas, including a rare ensemble of copper alloy sacred ornaments from Tibet, Tokchas, from the collects ion of the later Max Mawell, artifacts from the collects ion of the late Paul Rutten of the Netherland or Tsaklis from a French collects ion, will provide an interesting focus for the sale

Japanese Works of Art: A Selection of Woodblock Prints and Meiji Period Works of Art

Finally, the sale will highlight various Japanese works of art and two collects ions of Japanese woodblock prints ukiyo-e.
