Description
CHAMPION, SIZE 50
Polyester
Circa 1997
Offered in this lot is a game-worn warmup jacket featuring the NBA 50th Anniversary patch on the sleeve. The jacket was worn by Scottie Pippen on January 30, 1997, when the Chicago Bulls faced the Sacramento Kings. In that game, Pippen recorded 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, while also leading the team defensively with 4 steals and 1 block. His performance helped guide Chicago to a 111–93 win. The jacket is signed by Pippen and includes the inscription “NBA 50 Greatest!”
Ahead of the 1996–97 season, NBA Commissioner David Stern unveiled the league’s 50 Greatest Players as part of the NBA’s 50th anniversary celebration. The list was selected by a panel of media members, team executives, and former players, honoring those whose careers defined the league’s first five decades. To mark the occasion, NBA 50 patches were added to players’ warmup jackets throughout the season.
At the time of the announcement, the league noted that the 50 honored players had collectively earned 107 NBA championships, 49 MVP awards, 17 Rookie of the Year honors, and 447 All-Star selections, while accounting for more than 923,000 points and 410,000 rebounds—figures that underscore the historical weight behind the NBA 50 designation.
This jacket comes directly from the Collection of Scottie Pippen. This jacket has been authenticated by MeiGray and PSA. This jacket is also accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication in regards to the signature.
