Sotheby’s is proud to present this pair of Scottie Pippen’s game-worn shorts from the 1990 NBA All-Star Game. This game marked a major milestone in Pippen’s career, as his first All-Star selection. He would go on to make seven All-Star appearances throughout the 1990s, but this first selection stands out as the start of that legacy.
The 1990 All-Star Game featured one of the most talent-packed rosters in league history. The Eastern Conference lineup included Michael Jordan, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Patrick Ewing, while the West countered with Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon, John Stockton, and other future Hall of Famers.
This game also marked the end of an era in All-Star uniform design, as it was the final year of this iconic style. Today, these uniforms are widely regarded as some of the most memorable in All-Star history, a visual symbol of the NBA’s late-80s and early-90s resurgence.
The game took place on February 11, 1990, in Miami, Florida, with the East winning 130–113. Coming off the bench, Pippen recorded 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, and 1 block, showing the versatility and defensive presence that would define his career—even in a game full of superstars.
This All-Star appearance also came during a pivotal season for the Bulls. In 1989–90, Pippen and Jordan guided Chicago to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they fell to the Detroit Pistons in seven games. That season helped transform the Bulls from a promising team into one of the league’s elite squads, setting the stage for their first championship the following year.
These shorts come directly from the Collection of Scottie Pippen.
