This atmospheric pair of landscapes are close in execution to a number of works painted by Francesco Guardi towards the end of his career in the 1770s and 1780s, namely the river landscape, of very similar dimensions, in a private collection, Lugano,1 or the signed canvas in The State Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg (inv. no. ГЭ-4305).2
