This cylindrical vessel form with domed cover is referred to in the archives at Doccia as 'vaso da rinfrescare' or 'rinfrescatoio' and was probably used to cool fresh fruit. A more common variant of this shape, with foliate scroll handles rather than shell handles, is illustrated and discussed by A. Biancalana, Porcellane Ginori a Doccia, La stanza delle meraviglie di casa Colli, Milan, 2023, pp. 454-455, no. 108.
