rectangular with canted corners and a double-opening lid, all sides decorated with allegorical scenes of goddesses in wooded landscapes with buildings in the distance, within pink, yellow and iron-red rocaille cartouches on a blue osier ground, the lid interiors painted with portraits of Carl Theodore, the Elector Palatine, in armour, wearing the sash of the Order of St. Hubert, and his wife Elisabeth Auguste, with gilt interior and wavy gold mounts, Paris petite garantie for 18ct gold 1819-1838, later French post-1918 control mark for gold,
