Description

Paul Jones Spiritus Frumenti 100 Proof

Ullage: low shoulder

“Spiritus frumenti,” or “spirit of the grain,” was the artful term used by doctors during Prohibition to paper over the fact that they were prescribing whiskey to their patients. A number of distilleries played along, marketing bourbon and rye as spiritus frumenti for much of the 1920s. Among them was Paul Jones, distilled at the long-forgotten Vancleave and Hardesty Distillery southeast of Louisville and bottled at the Tom Moore Distillery in Bardstown. It comes in a unique tamper-proof paper carton, which had to be torn open to get to the whiskey.
