A pair of Italian gilt-bronze mounted pietre dure, ebony and kingwood caskets, Florence, Granducal Workshops, second quarter 18th century, after designs by Gianbattista Foggini, the panels circa 1720 


the tops opening to reveal an olivewood veneered interior, each inset with a marble inlaid panels with animal hunting scenes, framed by an ebony and kingwood border, the concave border lid framed with gilt-bronze foliated mounts inset with carved hardstones, each corner with a double scroll cartouche, the four corners of the body with a shell above suspended festoons of foliage and flowers in hardstones, on scrolled gilt-bronze feet
