Description
Chrysoloras, Manuel. Emanuelis Chrysolorae Bysantini, viri doctiss. Graecae grammaticae institutiones… Dominico Sylvio interprete. De formatione temporum, ex libro Chalcondylae. Venice: (Bartolomeo Zanetti for Federico Torresano, February) 1539
A close copy of Zanetti's 1538 edition, printed for Melchiorre Sessa, with parallel text in Latin and Greek, in the translation of Domenico Silva.
8vo (154 x 102 mm). Greek and italic type, 29 lines plus headline. collation: A-O8: 112 leaves. Woodcut Torresano device on title-page, woodcut initials, old manuscript notes on flyleaves (some in Greek, some seemingly schoolboy scribbles). (Somewhat damp-stained and slightly cockled.)
binding: Contemporary Italian blind-tooled brown morocco (158 x 112 mm), traces of blue edges. (Binding somewhat rubbed and creased.)
provenance: College of Santa Caterina, Padua, early inscription on inside lower cover (though seemingly a list of provisions rather than an ownership inscription). acquisition: Purchased from Sokol Books, London, 2008. references: Cataldi Palau 158; Edit16 12134; Renouard 118/2
