Girolamo Bottigella (or Butigella, 1470-1515), a jurist from Pavia, taught canon and civil law in Pavia, Padua and Rome; this work, a commentary on the first part of the Code, was based on his lectures. A larger compilation of his legal writings (repetitiones) had been printed in Lyon in 1553.


Folio (285 x 202 mm). Roman type, double column, 66 lines plus headline. collation: *2 A-S4 T6 a-c4 d6: 98 leaves (T4 and d6 blank), index bound at front, dedication bound between quires a and b. Engraved printer's device on title-page. (Without blank leaf d6.)


binding: Early nineteenth-century diced russia with border tooled in gilt and blind (290 x 213 mm), spine gilt in compartments, gilt edges. (Upper hinge cracked and weak, extremities slightly rubbed.)
