2002
The Nike SB Dunk made its formal debut in 2002, with the launch of Nike Skateboarding and the “Colors By” series, in which 4 skaters were tasked with designing their own dunk colorway. One of the four was the Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Richard Mulder’. Mulder’s sneaker features white leather on the upper and white mesh on the tongue and collar. Drawing on inspiration from his first pair of white and blue Nike’s, Mulder chose Orion Blue for the Swoosh to complete the design.
Nike officially reworked the famed Dunk basketball sneaker, originally designed in the 1980s, with upgrades suited for the skateboarding community. The man behind it, former Nike executive Sandy Bodecker, is credited with building one of Nike’s most beloved subdivisions in the early 2000s with the Nike SB line.
