A jewelled and enamelled gold-mounted hardstone chalice, Continental, mid-19th century


the oval bowl carved as a shaped semi-closed flowerhead, on spreading foot, the tapering baluster stem set with gold mounts cast and chased as foliate swags heighted with classical masks and decorated in polychrome basse-taille enamel, the jewelled swags alternating with enamelled cornucopiae filled with fruit, the rim above the carved foot centred with lion masks, apparently unmarked

height 6 9⁄16 in.; 16,5cm.
