A Silver-Gilt Chocolate Set, Augsburg, Johann Jakob Adam, 1749-51


fitted with a Meissen beaker, painted, in the manner of J. G. Höroldt, on front and reverse with figures at various pursuits in gardens within Böttger lustre, iron-red, puce and gilt scrollwork-edged shaped quatrefoil cartouches, the interior rim with a gilt scrollwork band, and a German glass beaker with silver-gilt mount to foot, engraved with scrollwork ornament reserving baskets of flowers, the Meissen beaker, with gilt numeral 4.

A similar Augsburg (Elias Adam) silver-trembleuse, 1745, fitted with a Meissen two-handled beaker and saucer and a Nuremburg engraved glass beaker, circa 1720, is in the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, acc. no 2017.3.7. An Augsburg silver-trembleuse, 1751-53, with a Meissen cup painted with military scenes, circa 1730 was sold at Replica Shoes ’s London, Dr. Heller’s Lexicon, December 4, 2012, lot 20A
