A Rare Pair of Meissen Leaf-Shaped Dishes from the Hunting Service made for Empress Catherine the Great of Russia, Circa 1766
each applied with a branch handle issuing porcelain flowers, painted with vignettes of hunting scenes supported on painted and gilt scrollwork supports, one scene of a hunter on horseback with a hound and companion, the other with a deer in a river being stalked by a hunter in the undergrowth, with gilt-scroll-edged green-diaper borders at the rims issuing coloured flowers, crossed swords and dot marks in black or underglaze-blue

Sotheby's Scientific Research department used noninvasive XRF for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected.
