A closely comparable kashkul is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (inv. no.755-1899), illustrated in A.S. Melikian-Chirvani, Islamic Metalwork from the Iranian World, London, 1982 p.254. The distinctive lobed medallions, lotus blossoms and stylised cloud motifs resemble those found on a Timurid dish sold in these rooms 22 April 2015, lot 32 and a dish in the Victoria and Albert Museum dated September 1496-August 1497. Melikian-Chirvani likens the "peculiar semi-zoomorphic outlines of the chi cloud motifs with elephants waggling their trunks that draw parallels with contemporaneous manuscripts" (ibid, p.251).
