The Timurids considered jade to be a highly auspicious stone. It represented at once their Turkic Central Asian heritage and was believed to be able to cure many different ailments and bring protection to its wearer. This pendant, like another also signed by Nuri which sold in these rooms, 30 March 2022, lot 106, is carved in dark green jade, a colour associated with the earlier Timurid period (Ekhtiar 2011, p.196). Another closely comparable example is in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg (inv. no.IR-2092).
