An Egyptian Bronze Situla

25th/early 26th Dynasty, circa 750-600 B.C.


of slender form with knobbed base and high suspension handle, engraved at left with the priest Petemestous, son of Inaros, seated before an offering table and wearing a panther-skin cloak and ointment cone, facing his son the priest Djedkhy wearing a panther-skin cloak and long transparent kilt, holding an incense burner and pouring a libation, the fourteen columns of inscription with a prayer on behalf of Petemestous.

Height with handle 27.5; height without handle 16 cm.
