the hair bound in a fillet and tied in a braided chignon at the nape of neck, a rectangular slot on the crown; no restorations.

The braided chignon is a typical feature of hairstyles from the Julio-Claudian period (see K. Polaschek, Trierer Zeitschrift, vol. 35, 1972, pp. 145ff.). The rectangular slot was probably meant for insertion of a separately carved braid. Such a braid on the crown is another typical feature of hairstyles from this period.
