An akoda-nari suji-bachi [helmet with raised ridges]

 Edo period, 17th - 18th century 


the helmet bowl with raised ridges, copper-gilt five-tier tehen kanamono, the mabisashi [peak] with eyebrows and furrowed brow, plain black lacquer fukigaeshi [turnbacks], the shikoro [neck guard] of four tiers with kebiki odoshi [close-laced] in dark blue braid, the gold lacquered-wood maedate in the form of a sun disc above a crescent moon


The shikoro to peak: 34 cm., 13⅜ in.
