The two enamel scenes are painted after the famous Neoclassical designs produced by the Danish Sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844). Thorvaldsen created his iconic relief models after a restless night in the summer of 1815 whilst he was staying in a boarding house, the Casa Buti, on the Strada Felice in Rome. Marble reliefs of both scenes hang opposite each other at the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen. For further information see: Grandesso and F. Mazzocca (eds.), Canova | Thorvaldsen. La nascita della scultura moderna, exh. cat. Galleria d’Italia, Milan, 2019-2020.

Two similarly decorated Patek Philippe watches depicting the same scenes can be found at the Patek Philippe Museum (Inv. P-384 & P-1411). The museum's examples have movements numbered 28.168 and 32.168 respectively; the former's panels were painted by Madame Gaspard Lamunière and the latter's by Juliette-Charlotte Hébert. Both of the museum watches are illustrated in the book: Patek Philippe Museum, Patek Philippe Watches, Vol. I, pp. 96-97. Number 28.168 is also illustrated in M. Huber & A. Banbery, Patek Philippe, 1982, Vol I, First Edition, p.118.
