Other examples of this model of pedestal from the late Louis XIV period have been sold at auction, notably a pair sold by Replica Shoes 's, New York, 19 April 2012, lot 257.
The stamp of Etienne Levasseur can be found on one of the pedestal of this pair, as he became a specialist in the restoration of Boulle furniture in the 1770s and 1780s, after having likely apprenticed in the workshop of one of André Charles Boulle's sons. His stamp appears on numerous pieces from the reign of Louis XIV in the Louvre Museum, the Palace of Versailles, and the Wallace Collection.
He was one of the major suppliers for the marchand-mercier Claude-François Julliot, along with Philippe Claude Montigny and Joseph Baumhauer.
