Description

A North African Brass Hanukkah Lamp, late 19th century

onion-domed back, pierced with two birds above applied scroll motifs, lacking lamps

Height 11½in. (29.2 cm)

New York, 1990: The Sephardic Journey, 1492-1992, Yeshiva University Museum, November 13, 1990 – December 31, 1992, p. 289, no. 371 (illus).

Jay Weinstein, A Collector’s Guide to Judaica, London: Thames & Hudson, 1985, p. 139, fig. 185, where he notes the North African style of the backplate but the resemblance of the lamp pan to Dutch examples, and suggests that the piece may be a hybrid.
