Note on Provenance
Giovanni Battista Fardella was a Sicilian nobleman, soldier, and patron of culture born in Trapani on 29 July 1762. A member of the aristocratic Fardella family, he pursued a distinguished military career in the service of the Bourbon monarchy, rising to the rank of general and serving as Minister of War and Navy in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Alongside his public career, Fardella was an important collector of books and paintings, assembling a notable library and picture collection. His commitment to learning and civic life led him to found the Biblioteca Fardelliana in Trapani in 1830, leaving a lasting cultural legacy to his native city.
