The Older Americans Act was the first federal-level initiative aimed at providing comprehensive services for older adults. President Johnson launched a set of domestic programs in 1964 and 1965, which aimed to eliminate poverty and racial injustice in America. Out of the many programs initiated, the Older Americans Act is one that is still continually in force. It provides funding for nutrition and supportive home and community-based services, disease prevention services, elder rights programs, the National Family Caregiver Support Program, and the Native American Caregiver Support Program.
