rectangular with cut corners, the lid of the serpentine body inlaid with a micromosaic representing a classical urn flanked by two swans, within a fine aventurine quartz border, the silver-gilt mounts with a slender thumbpiece, struck with a hitherto unidentified maker’s mark B in italics in a lozenge
