the first, Paris, circa 1765, a Vernis Martin snuff box painted with parrots, partridges and other birds amidst flowers and trees on a gold-coloured ground, framed with green scrollwork,

the second, a small rock-crystal snuff box with two-coloured gold mounts and ropetwist borders, Paris, 1780-1782, unidentified maker’s mark, charge and discharge marks of Henri Clavel (1780-1782), later French ET import mark,
