the rounded rectangular box and close fitting cover with silver mounts, decorated in coloured cloisonné enamels and various thicknesses of gold and silver wire on a deep blue ground, with scattered rectangular panels depicting various floral scenes, including wisteria hanging above a stream, sparrows flying among pine trees, ducks, water plants and flowers including iris, plum blossom and chrysanthemum, continuing over the sides, and two further panels with a dragonfly among morning glory and sparrows flying among hydrangea to the base, silk brocade lining with paulownia (kiri) and chrysanthemum to the interior
