A cloisonné enamel box and cover

Meiji period, late 19th century


the rounded rectangular box with flush fitting cover and silver gilt mounts, decorated in coloured cloisonné enamels and worked in various thicknesses of silver wire, with a butterfly hovering above yellow summer flowers with the leaves in subtle shaded (bokashi) dark green enamel, the design continuing over the sides, brown silk brocade lining with auspicious symbols to the interior
