rectangular, the lid centred with a hexagonal enamel plaque painted with Lady Scarsdale with her son, the Honourable John Curzon, mezzotint by Robert Sayer, after Sir Joshua Reynolds (1760); within a black taille d'épargne frame and chased foliate spandrels on a sablé ground, surrounded by an elaborate geometric pattern in two different shades of blue over wavy-engine-turning, the sides and base decorated en suite, apparently unmarked apart from later French hibou control mark,
