Description
the first, probably German, circa 1725/30, rectangular, the lid centred with a floral gold ornament within raised relief frame chased with hares, rabbits and scrolling foliage, on a silver ground engraved with gryphons, hounds and flowers, the gilt corners chased with stylised tulips and hounds, plain silver sides and small protruding thumbpiece, the base engraved with St George and the dragon, the gilt interior engraved with initials MP; the second, probably Paris, circa 1780, oval, all sides decorated with opulent flower bouquets in three-coloured gold piqué posé, within rose gold floral and leafy borders, applied rose gold thumbpiece with engraved wavy rim; the third, Paris, 1785, of elongated oval form with bulbous sides and lid, decorated with a rose gold caparisoned border alternating with yellow gold trefoils in piqué posé, slightly protruding thumbpiece, the right and the left side inset with a circular rose gold plaque engraved with a central floral ornament, maker’s mark rubbed, Second charge and discharge mark of Henri Clavel, Paris date letter P for 1785
