A rare example of a bell shaped huqqa base complete with a large stand, huqqas of this stature and intricacy can be seen in renowned institutions, notably the Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad and Victoria and Albert Museum in London (inv. no. 136-1852). For further examples, see V.L Devkar, (ed.), Bidri Ware, Hyderabad, 1961. This huqqa base aptly highlights the potential for complexity and beauty that can be achieved through the bidri technique. Retaining an exceptional amount of its silver inlay, a similar base was offered in these rooms 24 April 1991, lot 696.
