Right on time for the Sex and the City reboot, Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic tutu skirt is making a comeback.

The iconic piece worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in the original run’s opening credits has become a source of style inspiration once again since the star has started filming the new series, …And Just Like That.

There are so many of Carrie’s outfits we love, including that Dior newspaper dress and her endless collection of Manolo Blahniks, but the tutu skirt seems to be one of the most coveted. It also has one of the coolest backstories.

Speaking to Racked, the show’s original costume designer Patricia Field revealed that she actually found the skirt in a showroom and paid only $5 for it.

The skirt later became such a fan-favourite that Field started selling her version of it on her site for $140.

Designers have caught on to the demand for the style. Even before the Sex and the City reboot was confirmed, we already saw a tiny resurgence of the trend earlier this year on the runways of Chanel and Valentino.

The Valentino iteration, albeit floor-length, was paired with a tank top much like the one Carrie was wearing in the show. Coincidence?

Whether or not it was, one thing’s for sure: people want their tutu skirts!

According to Lyst, searches for ‘long tutu skirts’ and ‘tulle tutus’ have spiked by 110% after Sarah Jessica Parker posted a photo of herself wearing a long tutu on Instagram.
