If you’ve noticed bows everywhere recently, you’re not imagining it. Amid hours of mindless scrolling on social media over Christmas, I saw bows tied to almost everything I could think of: wine glasses, dogs, and even fried chicken. It’s clear that this feminine addition isn’t just finding itself on the heads of little girls anymore. Now adults are joining in too, and there’s no limit.

According to the 2024 Pinterest Predicts report, bow stacking is about to get even bigger amongst Gen Z and Millennials. Right now, searches on the platform are up 190% for bow outfits, 180% for bow necklaces and 55% for bow aesthetic. More really is more.

So why now? TikTok user @myashell says that the Coquette aesthetic is exploding right now as women are finally being given the chance to get “in touch with their femininity”. She explains that bows allow women to “get in touch with their girlhood and bring it into their adult lives.” There’s nothing girlier than a bow, after all.

It hasn’t come out of no where, either. 2023 was the year of Barbiecore, balletcore, Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour. Women are stepping into the feminine and it really does feel powerful.

Simone Rocha has been a long-time lover of the dainty bow and accessorised it on almost everything in her AW23 show, including under the eyes of the models. Balmain meanwhile added oversized bows to dainty blouses and patent leather skirts, sometimes throwing in a bow tie accessory too.
