The trend emerged last summer, with a whole host of stars being spotted in the practical yet stylish accessory. Now they’re back.

Nearly every designer under the sun has dropped their own iterations of the accessory, including Prada, Ganni, Fendi, Loewe, Missoni, Acne Studios…the list goes on.

It’s clear we’re about to see a whole lot more of this 70s-inspired trend, but one thing to be aware of is that not all crochet is created equal.

While there are plenty of fast fashion brands emulating the technique of crochet, it’s a time-consuming skill. That’s why the real deal sets you back more than the cheap and cheerful items you might find on the high street.

If you don’t want to shell out hundreds on a crochet hat, I’m not here to judge but be aware that the crochet you may see on the high street isn’t crochet at all, but an imitation fabric that’s woven by machines.
