Are Skinny Jeans Still in Style in 2024?

Are they really as uncool as we’re told?

Let’s talk about one of the friendly fashion debates that Gen Zs and Millennials had over the years—are skinny jeans in or out in 2024?

When it comes to the noughties denim staple, the consensus over the last few years has been that these tight-fitting jeans are on their way out. Instead looser styles are gaining attention, and there’s a few reasons why.

Firstly, the rise of Y2K fashion, which favours baggy trousers, low waists and loose fits. As a result, Gen-Z make no secret of their disdain for the previously popular skinnies, while Millennials tend to keep a soft spot for them.

But let’s not forget the pandemic, which undeniably changed our relationship to clothes. Whatever location or occasion you used to get dressed for, whether it’s the office, dinner with friends or a trip to your local coffee shop, comfort was rarely the top priority.

Comfort is now an important element of fashion, and whatever skinny jeans might be, they’re not comfy.

Let’s delve a little further into the denim trends of 2024. If you’re in for more trends, stay in the know if chunky sandals and white trainers are still in style this year.

Are skinny jeans in style in 2024?

If you love skinny jeans, wear them. At Cheap Luxury Handbags , we prioritise comfort and confidence over trends, so if skinnies give you that, embrace them wholeheartedly.

While skinny jeans are fading out of the denim trends in 2023, looks like this classic jean is slowly resurging in 2024. But this time, they’re given an update, like higher waists, cropped lengths, and details like raw hems and slits.

Don’t believe me? Well, skinny jeans made it in the runways during Spring/Summer 2024, thanks to Acne Studios and Diesel. And according to Refinery29, luxury brands like Balmain, Levi’s, and Everlane were spotted selling skinny jeans in low-rise and high-waisted designs. I bet they wouldn’t sell these if they aren’t in style, no?

Searches for the staple remain stable (and interestingly far higher than searches for baggy jeans) so it’s clear there’s still a market for them.

Can you still wear skinny jeans?

Of course! I can’t say this enough: wear what you love.

What jeans are trending for 2024?

Y2K jeans are still reigning supreme for 2024, including baggy jeans, cargo and puddle pants. Wide-leg jeans and utility jeans are also sticking around this year.

TLDR: the look is relaxed, loose-fitting, and casual.

When did skinny jeans stop being popular?

It was around early 2021 when publications like Refinery29, Who What Wear, and ELLE reported that the skinny jean was ‘dead’.

It’s no coincidence that this coincided with the latter end of the pandemic, signalling a shift towards more relaxed fashion.

But the good news is that they have not totally disappeared in the scene. And since we’re seeing them in the runways, expect to see skinny jeans back in the fashion game in the years to come.

What should I wear instead?

What jeans do you love? Finding the perfect pair is really challenging, but if you spend a day trying on a selection, you’ll find the pair that suits you best.

My personal favourites are barrel-leg, straight and mom jeans, all of which aren’t too loose or too tight.
