Are Chunky Sandals Still in Style in 2024?
From platforms to wedges, it’s all about chunky soles.
I’ve always loved chunky sandals. In fact, they’re one of my favourite things from the Y2K trend resurrection. But as a fashionista, I can’t help but ask—are chunky sandals still hot in 2024, or is it time to shove them to the back of the closet? So, I did a little digging myself, following the trends on the runways and in today’s fashion scene. And now, I’m here to spill the tea on whether these bold statement pieces are still ruling the scene.
Chunky sandals were every it-girl’s go-to shoes back in the late ’90s and early 2000s. These shoes were everywhere, thanks to pop icons like Britney Spears and the Spice Girls, who practically made them a staple. Their resurgence in 2023 has brought back a wave of nostalgia and a fresh twist on how we style them today.
Beyond their nostalgic appeal, it’s undeniable that chunky sandals have cemented their place in the current fashion scene. Whether you’re going for a casual or formal look, chunky sandals add a fun and playful touch to any outfit. These bold and stylish sandals are comfortable and versatile, making them the perfect choice for every season. The chunky heel and wide straps provide support for your feet and ankles, too.
Whether it’s spring, summer or fall, will 2024 be the year of chunky sandals? Or are they out of style? Stay tuned as I delve deep into the latest trends and give you the lowdown on chunky sandals. Stay in the loop for more trends as we bring you the latest bag and wedding trends of 2024.

Are chunky sandals still in style in 2024?
While they aren’t the highlighted trend of the year, chunky sandals will always be a thing. And it looks like they are going to be this summer’s favourite shoe. They’re also a great choice for those who prefer a bit of height, as the chunky heel provides a stable base while still adding a few inches of height.
We’ve seen the trend in the Spring/Summer 2024 collections of Versace, Prada, and Bottega Veneta. And they have proven that chunky sandals are the chicest pair you’ll wear this summer.
Although numerous chunky sandals are currently in the market, we’re seeing platform sandals with chunky soles, fisherman sandals with slightly thicker sole, and chunky sole mules gaining traction. But, we’re saying goodbye to the classic dad sandals.

What shoes will be popular in 2024?
Expect to see knee-high boots with slim heels and more chunky soles reminiscent of the Y2K era. Also expect the classics to appear this year, such as loafers, oxfords, and Mary Janes—but with fresh updates. For sandals, the trend will lean towards thong sandals, fisherman sandals, and strappy lace-up designs.
