Black Friday and Cyber Monday is just a few weeks away, and if you’re someone who likes to get ahead with your Christmas shopping, you might be wondering if high street favourite Next will take part in 2024. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are considered biggest shopping events of the year, and with so many fashion and beauty brands taking part, it’s not to be missed.

Next’s sales are very popular, with queues of shoppers looking to get a bargain often winding down the street. The British brand is a staple store, known for good quality womenswear, menswear, kidswear and even homeware – so it’s no surprise that people look forward to its sales. You can get it all from Next, and it’s affordable too. During their sales, they’re known for being very generous with discounts in the past – so much so that the aforementioned queues begin forming as early as 6am.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is an annual shopping event, which sees a huge number of retailers across many industries slashing their prices. It takes place on the last Friday of the month of November, the day after Thanksgiving and roughly a month before Christmas, which is what makes it especially popular. It gives shoppers an opportunity to buy gifts for their loved ones at seemingly more affordable prices, but it’s usually not as good as it seems. Many retailers actually raise their prices before the sale event.

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday usually takes place on the last Friday in November. In 2024, this lands on November 29th. Cyber Monday takes place the following Monday, which is December 3rd in 2024.

In recent years, Black Friday has started days early, with many brands teasing shoppers with discounts throughout the week. While getting great discounts is obviously great for our wardrobes, this does mean it’s quite hard to decipher which days are actually best for shopping discounts.

Does Next take part in Black Friday? Our prediction for 2024

Next has opted out of Black Friday and Cyber Monday for the last five years running, so we’re not expecting them to offer a big Black Friday sale in 2024 either. While the high street brand keeps quiet about their reason, we’re presuming that it’s because of the push towards sustainability that’s leading to many brands dipping out of the shopping season.

The good news is that the brand has plenty of pieces on sale in its clearance section, so while it’s not labeled a Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale as such, you won’t be short of bargains. If you can wait, the brand’s annual Boxing Day sale is also particularly popular.

Which other brands opt out of Black Friday?

As well as Next, there’s a handful of brands that choose not to take part in Black Friday and Cyber Monday like Arket, Alohas, RIXO, Primark and Tk Maxx. Some brands claim this is for sustainability reasons, while others already offer such cheap prices that they don’t need to hold BFCM sales.

Interestingly after years of opting out, Monki decided to launch a Black Friday sale in 2023. Many brands experience their best sales of the whole year during the sales period, so it’s not hard to understand why. Read more about which brands don’t take part in Black Friday.

Next’s previous Boxing Day sales have started on Boxing Day itself both online and in-store. Many high street brands tend to kick off the sales early since the rise in online shopping, so you’ll find many sales starting on Christmas Day itself.
